At Batley Parish we pride ourselves on the quality and diversity of the PE learning on offer to our pupils. We aim to provide every child with a fun and challenging PE experience.

We aim to provide a well-balanced curriculum which covers the statutory requirements of the PE National Curriculum 2014.

In the Early years Foundation stage, opportunities are provided for children to  be active and to develop their co-ordination, control and movement through moving and handling activities via the continuous outdoor provision and also they receive 1hour of PE a week.  Reception children also receive a 1 hour structured P.E. lesson to further enhance their physical development, as well as continuous outdoor provision.

Pupils in both KS1 and KS2 engage in the minimum of two hours of high quality PE during the course of each week.

In KS1 the curriculum focuses on fundamental movement skills to develop agility, balance and co-ordination. Curriculum content includes ball skills and team games, gymnastic and dance activities.

At KS2 pupils continue to apply and develop a range of skills and units of work including a range of invasion, net / wall, and fielding and striking games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and swimming in Year 5 and 6. We also enrich children’s experiences through opportunities for outdoor and adventurous activities and a range of Inter-House sporting competitions throughout the year.

We believe that through the variety of opportunities that PE offers, children can develop a sense of personal achievement, fair play and teamwork. We plan a range of activities that encourages children to develop their creative and expressive abilities, through improvisation and problem-solving. They are taught to appreciate the importance of a healthy and fit body, and begin to understand those factors which affect health and fitness.

All children are encouraged to join clubs and extend their interest and involvement in sport.

Competitive Sport Participation INTER SCHOOL

We are enjoying great success at school competitions.  We are active members of the North Kirklees Partnership and also Batley School Association, so there are lots of sporting events for the children to gain experience at competitive sports against other local schools.  So far this year we have gained huge success at the cross country events, 6 teams were entered from year 4 up to year 6 girls and boys, and for the first time at Batley Parish we had 3 teams who qualified for the Kirklees finals. Our year 4 girls went on to become the first North Kirklees school to win a cross-country final in the girls section. The girls have now qualified for the West Yorkshire Youth Games which will be held in March. The girls competed at the West Yorkshire Youth Games and were absolutley awesome coming 2nd out of 24 schools from West Yorkshire, what an absolutely fantastic job and puts Batley Parish on the map of success!!!

We recently entered into the Orienteering festival with 8 children 4 boys and 4 girls, and the girls came 3rd overall which they have now qualified for the West Yorkshire Youth Games in March.

Year 4 took part in an Indoor Sports Hall Athletics competition, where they competed in 14 races and they won 13 of them, also doing really well in the field events.

16 Year 6 children, split into two teams have been involved in a local football tournament. Team 2 finished a creditable fouth place in their group. Team 1 won their group and went on to finish second in the finals stage which meant they were runners up out of 24 local schools Fantastic result!!!

Last half term we had huge success at the year 5/6 indoor athletics winning our qualifying round.

Spring 2 was again another successful term for us winning the North Kirkless Netball! so onto the kirklees finals we go!!!, the year 4 football team came 5th out of 8 schools.
