- In October, our children organised and performed a range of dances, readings and plays in our annual Harvets service. A representative from the Batley food bank joined the service and accepted our generous food gifts for the needy in the local community
- In May, children took part in a new 'Spelling Bee' initiative with five local schools: Windmill Primary, Park Road J, I and N School, Fieldhead Academy and Birstall Academy. It was planned as part of our ongoing cluster work to improve standards of learning and teaching across seventeen schools in Batley and Birstall. Batley Parish CE VA J, I and N School were the winners!
- We had an exciting 'Fun Run' and raised money for local charities in May
- In June, we ran a very important charity day to raise money for the Candlelighters cancer charity. The singing group and drama group sang songs and parents enjoyed a coffee morning and strawberry cream tea. - A travelling production of the 'Little Princess' entertained us in June with a story focusing on responding to bullying. At Batley Parish, children know that bullying is a repeated unkind act or actions - either physical or emotional - that makes us feel terrible. We know to report anyone that makes us feel like that straight away. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT to do anything that challenges our own uniqueness or lifestyle choices
- Batley Parish took part in the TAARGAT archery competition at Dewsbury Sports' Centre, one Saturday in June. We didn't qualify to the second round but it's the taking part that counts:

- In June, Mr Martin, our Chair of Governors and new Priest in Charge, Rev Dr Martin Naylor visited the Ismaili Centre. The centre kindly donated the community 8 hampers, including food and cosmetics. Four have been donated to the drop in centre and four to the food bank in Batley. This was a really kind gesture and testimony to the wonderful community we love to celebrate.
- In July Kirklees Singing Group performed for our school. In return, our Batley P singing group sang for them. Give them time to buffer:
- Drama rehearsals for 'Dazzle' are now in full swing. Dress rehearsal 14th July. Production 15th July at 7:00pm (Open performance. Tickets still available from school office):
- On 11th July, Mr Richardson announced that he would be leaving Batley Parish CE VA J, I and N School to become headteacher at Dalton J, I and N School
- School councils from Batley and Birstall met at our school, for their second visit, on Wednesday 6th March, and shared ideas about how we can work as a group of schools within our community.
- Over 60 children enjoyed a theatre trip to see Oliver at Leeds Grand Theatre, For many children, it was their first visit to the theatre to see a musical.
- Children from year 5 and 6 took part in a Sports' Hall Athletics tournament on 15th January and came a very respectable 3rd. Well done to all involved and thank you for representing the school so well.
- The parent discussion group met on 19th March and discussed the possibilities of additional funding in the form of the 'Pupil Premium.' Parents suggested and considered new ideas and initiatives that have the potential to enhance the lives of children
- Our year 5 class began a self - esteem raising and aspiration project called 'Can You Win The Race?' Over the first Autumn half term, they have been considering how their actions impact on other and how nothing should stop them from making their lives extraordinary
- WIth support from the School Sport's Partnership in Kirklees, children in year 5 and 6 have been learning specific games and strategies to become playleaders at lunchtime. This training will develop, and is paid for, using the new Sports' Premium funding allocated by central Government
- Using the Sports' premium funding, staff have been enhancimg their expertise and, on a recent training day, have learnt new multi-skills, dance and gymnastics teaching techniques
- All staff met and have had opportunity to think about all pupils and their specific needs and talk about the success of intervention strategies, through our termly pupil progress meetings
- School councils have met, as part of the Batley Birstall Partnership, to focus on active lunchtimes and Park Road School was visited as they have enjoyed success with a recent playtime initiative
- A parent discussion group met on 7th October and a range of issues were discussed, including schools direct teacher training, car parking, changes to staffing and ways of supporting the school improvement priority - to raise attainment in reading comprehension
- Drama club, led by Mr Richardson, and needlecraft club, led by Mrs Senior resumed
- On the last day of term, our school said 'Happy Retirement' to Ann Bottomley or kitchen assistant who has worked in school for 29 years. the school council took her on a farewell tour round school and the choir sang to her. She has a special table at lunch, with her family, and enjoyed the company of the children
- Harvest festival took place on Thursday 24th October and was extremely well attended. Donations for the Batley food bank were made - we would like to thank all who contributed.
- Exciting activities before Christmas included a school disco, a summer fair and a visiting tour company who staged 'The Wizard of Oz.'
- All children, between the ages of 3 and 11, took part in our Christmas nativities and plays.
- In February over 50 children took part, alongside 8000 children from other schools, in Young Voices at the Manchester Arena. They sang a repertoire of 14 songs, learnt 'off by heart'
- Anam Mir won a loan shark competition to design a mug to promote the dangers of agreeing to some loans. She was presented with her winning mug by Councillor Lowe and Debbie from trading standards.
- On March 4th, children played in the North Kirklees School Sport Partnership Hi 5 Netball competition against local schools and won the tournament. They will now go on and play in the North Kirklees final on 25th March. Well done to the whole team.

- Class 3 visited Jorvik in York to focus on their study of Invaders and Settlers
- The netball team competed in the North Kirklees Netball final but came 4th. It was a brilliant effort
- NCPCC came to talk to children about different types of abuse as part of our PSHCE programme
- Mr Richardson continued to hold, after school, SPAG support groups sessions for Year 6 (Spelling, grammar and punctuation)
- Mr Richardson supported children before their year 6 maths SATS within a breakfast club. We even had pancakes and maple syrup.
- Our annual Easter Service was held and children performed a very moving dance. Give them time to buffer!
- During the summer term, the school enjoyed celebrating children's achievements at Presentation Evening
- Also, in July the children sang their hearts out at the summer serenade
